Use Of Apostrophe
1. Apostrophe ( ' )
(a) -It is used with 's' to indicate that a person or a thing that belongs to somebody.
Rohan's school (रोहन का स्कूल)
Children's school (बच्चों का स्कूल)
Ravi's house (रवी का घर)
(b) -Apostrophe without 's' is used in case of Plural Nouns and Proper Nouns ending with 's' .
The boys' college. ( लड़कों का college)
The girls' college. (लड़कियों का college)
Kalidas' poems. (कालीदास की कविताएं)
(c) -Apostrophe is not used with non-living things.
The pen's price. (incorrect)
The price the pen. (Correct)
The book's power. (incorrect)
The power of book. (correct)
(d) -Pronouns do not require Apostrophe. Only 's' is used.
This house is hers. (यह उसका घर है|)
That information was yours. (वो आपकी सूचना थी|
(e) - Apostrophe is used for omitted letters.
I've you've She's won't shouldn't
(f) -Apostrophe with 's' is used with figures and letters to make plural.
Q's and T's 8's and 9's
(g) - Apostrophe with 's' is used to make abbreviations plural. In some cases it is ommited too.
